Hero
FEATURE FILM \ RUN TIME: 85:14
HERO is that rare low budget indie that trades genre imperatives for heart, easy answers for timeless questions. At once a film for seasoned cineastes and young adults, HERO is a confident debut from first-time screenwriter Myles Isreal who also appears in the film as role-playing werewolf Damon.
HERO is a coming-of-age dramedy about Tre, a misfit artist struggling with his place in the world after his ex-girlfriend Jess reveals she’s pregnant with his child. As Jess debates whether or not to keep their baby, Tre works to prove himself a worthy father by building a more permanent footing in the world, while at the same time negotiating a peaceful exit from the loving home his father has nurtured since the passing of his mother when he was a child. Further complicating the situation is the fact Tre has become attracted to another girl, Brooke, who actually understands and admires his offbeat personality and nerdy pursuits.
Filmed in 2022 with support from the University of South Carolina and the South Carolina Film Commission, HERO is a production of Local Cinema Studios, a non-profit company founded to foster independent filmmaking while giving college students the chance to work alongside professionals in a real-world filmmaking environment.
